Nicholas Gatto has been the Organist at St. Bartholomew Church since 2004, having studied organ privately with St. Bartholomew's previous organist, Mitch Weisiger. In 2010, he took over the full duties of Director of Sacred Music. Prior to his appointment at St. Bartholomew's, Nicholas was the assistant organist at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Old Bridge. Recently, he has occasionally branched out into concert performance, having performed the dedicatory recital for the newly installed organ at Holy Child Catholic Church on Staten Island in 2019. He has also worked as a staff piano accompanist in the Music Department of The College of New Jersey, collaborating in recitals and masterclasses with both students and faculty.
Nicholas also maintains an active career as a freelance oboist. He performs regularly with the Monmouth Symphony Orchestra, Eastern Wind Symphony, Boheme Opera Company of New Jersey, Tim Keyes Consort, and Staten Island Philharmonic, as well as other ensembles throughout New Jersey, New York, and Eastern Pennsylvania. He also is a founding member of Quinception, a woodwind quintet that promotes music by living composers. His oboe playing can also be heard on several tracks by contemporary jazz and R&B recording artist Will Downing.
Nicholas graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from The College of New Jersey in 2000 and earned his Master's Degree in Music Performance from Carnegie Mellon University in 2002. Currently, he lives in Edison with his wife (Andrea), son (Brendan), and Australian labradoodle (Neville).
